BIGS OF THE YEAR

Big Cielo Jacuinde and Little Roberto Marin are proud participants in the High School Bigs Program in Farmersville, California. Matched since 2024, they have developed a truly meaningful bond built on trust, encouragement, and consistency. When Roberto first joined the program, he was shy and reserved. Over time, with Cielo’s steady guidance and support, he has grown into one of the most energetic and enthusiastic students in the group. He especially looks forward to program days when he gets to spend time with his Big, knowing he can always rely on her. Cielo is patient, attentive, and consistently by Roberto’s side, creating a safe and supportive environment where he feels comfortable trying new things while knowing he has someone there to encourage him. Although Roberto has faced some academic challenges, particularly in reading, Cielo has remained a positive and motivating influence. Through her dedication, she has helped strengthen not only his academic skills but also his confidence and personal growth. One moment that truly reflects Cielo’s commitment as a mentor occurred when she noticed Roberto being treated unfairly by another student. Without hesitation, she reported the situation in detail and took immediate steps to ensure he was protected and supported. Her response demonstrated her deep care for Roberto and her willingness to advocate for him. A true mentor stands by their mentee during difficult moments, and Cielo embodies that role wholeheartedly. Roberto feels safe, supported, and genuinely happy in her presence, and confident that she will always be there for him when he needs her most.

Big Sister Cielo & Little Brother Roberto 2026

Emmanuel is a 17-year-old junior at Tulare Union High School who maintains an impressive 3.75 GPA while actively participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. He lives with his parents and two younger brothers and aspires to become an immigration lawyer, reflecting his desire to serve others. As a Big, Emmanuel is friendly, respectful, caring, and consistently engaged in every aspect of the program. He has not missed a single day and shows up rain or shine with a positive attitude. When his Little is absent, Emmanuel still chooses to stay and either assists staff or serves as a Big for another Little. His patience and encouragement have helped his Little grow in confidence and participation. Although his Little previously struggled with bullying and sensitivity, Emmanuel’s mentorship has helped him thrive socially and emotionally while creating a safe and judgement-free environment. During activities, his Little eagerly participates and calls out answers because Emmanuel motivates and supports him. Other Littles often gravitate toward Emmanuel and even ask if he can be their Big, demonstrating the strong example he sets. He actively engages in program events, including summer activities and attending a Rawhide game with his Little. Emmanuel consistently communicates with program staff, responds promptly to announcements, and treats everyone with respect. As a dependable and compassionate male mentor—something rare and deeply valued in the program—Emmanuel embodies integrity, leadership, and the true spirit of what it means to be a Big.
