BIGS OF THE YEAR
Little Sister Megan and Big Sister Gillian
Little Sister Megan and Big Sister Gillian have been matched since 4/26/2016 in our Kings County Community Based Program. Megan is currently in foster care which Big Sister Gillian felt could relate as she was in foster care in her adolescence. They connected immediately as they bonded over similar backgrounds. Megan was having difficulty in school and fighting with her foster mom daily; however since being matched Megan has improved academically and Gillian has helped her find ways to relieve her frustrations by journaling. Little Sister Megan has even enrolled in band and is playing the trumpet since her match with Gillian.
Big Brother Armando & Little Brother Bryan
Big Brother Armando and Little Brother Bryan have been matched since September 2014 in our Madera Lunch Buddies Program. Since being matched, Armando has encouraged and supported Bryan in many ways. Bryan has since gained self-confidence and has become more focused in school. Bryan trusts Armando and knows that he can count on him. The match enjoys lunch together weekly and enjoys good conversation. Overall, Bryan is more confident and has gained self-esteem since matched. He has become more open and looks forward to seeing his Big each week.
Big Brother Chase & Little Brother Michael
Big Brother Chase and Little Brother Michael have been matched for just over a year in Fresno County Community Based Program. Michael had some challenges growing up as he lost his dad at young age and needed a male figure in his life as he was living with his grandmother. He is very smart but needed more focus academically as he was getting into trouble with other children. Michael found himself involved with the juvenile justice system and that’s when his grandmother decided he needed a Big Brother. Chase provides Michael with the advice that he needs for situations at school, one on one time together and he serves as a role model for Michael. Since being matched, Michael has been in trouble less at school as he looks forward to all his outings with his Big Brother Chase.
