My County

While Big Brothers Big Sisters is one regional non-profit organization, programs are tailored to the unique circumstances of each county.

Mentors are recruited locally, children are local, and funds are raised locally.  There is local leadership at the local level through Leadership Councils and Board of Director representation from each county.

Fresno County

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California started first in Fresno County back in 1968. More of the traditional community-based matches are in the city of Fresno than any other area we serve. We are presently concentrating on increasing our reach in more rural areas.

The program is expanding into East Fresno County through working with the East Fresno County Communities of Caring Task Force, reaching into Sanger, Fowler, Reedley, Del Rey, Parlier, and Orange Cove. The basis of our work in this area is through membership in the faith-based coalition of Sanger’s Community of Caring group.

To build visibility for mentoring in the area, Big Brothers Big Sisters co-leads a mentoring coalition that includes Fresno Unified, Hands On Central California, Encourage Tomorrow, Every Neighborhood Partnership, Boys and Girls Club, Girl Scouts, and more. If you would like to join us, contact Interim Executive Director Richard Lord.

Kings County

The program is growing in Kings County, with matches now throughout the county, but with lots of room for growth.

Currently, the Kings County Leadership Council is seeking additional members. If you would like to help the local program grow, join us! Contact Nancy Conway for more information.

Kern County

After re-opening a Kern County office in late 2008, the program is currently on hold pending more local funding. All current matches are being supported by our Tulare County office. Our Leadership Council still meets on a monthly basis to discuss potential funding opportunities so that we can begin to create new matches once again.

To get involved with our Leadership Council or to refer potential funding sources, please contact Nancy Conway at 559-268-2447. To donate to your local program, designate your funds to Kern County.

Madera County

The program is growing in Madera County, but our biggest challenge is finding community-based mentors for children in Madera. Consequently, to provide mentoring opportunities for youth, we offer a strong High School Bigs program.

The local office is located in the generously donated space provided by FMC, with a direct line available to the Madera County Program Manager.

Currently, the Madera County Leadership Council is seeking additional members. If you would like to help the local program grow, join us! Contact Deanna Ramirez for more information.

We also are recruiting a Board of Directors member from Madera County. Interested? Contact Richard Lord.

Tulare County

In October, 2007, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tulare County organization consolidated with the Fresno, Kings, and Madera organization. This allowed for the sharing of administrative costs and media markets, as well as providing better sustainability for the program in Tulare County. The consolidation resulted in a name change for the entire organization and we became Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California.

The local office is located in the Youth Center in Tulare, with a direct line available to the Tulare County Program Manager. Office hours are Monday through Thursday.

Currently, the Tulare County Leadership Council is seeking additional members. If you would like to help the local program grow, join us! Contact Laura Scott for more information.
